DID: Not much. The boys were particularly rambunctious today and I had little patience due to having slept poorly the night before. I was supposed to take the kids to the monkey park in Arashimaya while Jason went for a cooking class/sake tasting/fish market tour, but I wasn't up for it. We ended up just napping in the hotel while Jason did his thing. When he got back in the evening, we completely botched an attempt to see Nijo Castle. The taxi brought us to Nijo Station rather than the castle (which is about a 20 minute walk away), the castle as it turns out is closed on Tuesdays in July, and it's not even lit up so you can't see anything from the road. We do have a souvenir of the trip though - a gazillion mosquito bites. There's a breeding ground (aka very large moat) outside the castle walls.
Got back to the hotel early-ish to pack - tomorrow we're headed for Kinosaki!!
ATE: Not spectacularly well, probably because we finally broke ourselves away from Restaurant Row. Skipped breakfast. Had lunch at Yoshinoya, which is a Japanese fast food chain selling various meats on rice. Jason had unagi, I had thinly sliced pork. Dinner was a desperation stop at an udon noodle shop near Nijo Castle. I had thinly sliced beef on noodles with broth. GnR had skewers of three deep fried quails eggs (they thought they were getting chicken balls but were not unhappy with the eggs!) Jason didn't eat much because he'd had a lot during his cooking tour.
